Default How are the Mesmers?

Hey, I took a long break from GW, but I am thinking about joining again.

How are the mesmers in PVE these days? Are they good at killing and stuff?

Second, are they good at farming at all?

Any recommendations on builds to look at?

thanks!

Dunno about pve, my guild has an "all mesmer meet up at droks" every week and go do dungeons togeather or whatever, so they must be good. But i dont like playing as a mes.

Secondly, monk + sin owns the farming.

[echo][arcane echo][cry of pain] is used in urgoz to fill the majority of the slots...

As for farming, there's some pretty decent build around...[vengeful was khanhei] come to mind...there tends to be a decent amount of builds using mes secondary...as for primary mes builds, refer to dopefish's guide to the solo mesmer.

mesmers are ok in PvE, they are used a lot in dungeons with [cry of pain].

Theres a pretty good raptor farming build invloving earth tank skills and signet of illusions.
Cry Of Pain is pretty popular for elite areas and some dungeons etc.

Mesmers-
General PvE: Pretty good. Nice interrupting, could be a fast-cast nuker, also a Cryer[cry of pain] is quite effective.
Farming: Definitely NOT the best prof for farming. I bet there are a few good builds going around, but if it's farming you're after, mesmer isn't for u.
Builds: My opinion is just make your own custom one. You haven't even told us what type u wanted to be. Shutdown, interruption, e-stealer or something different? I recommend try out different combinations of skills that have great synergy and you can work with. Good luck!

mesmers can definitely hold there own in regular pve play. [Visions of regret] and [cry of pain] are two of many powerful they possess. they are not, lol archress says, much for farming though ;-) although cryway teams are popular for a few areas.

[cry of pain] is popular, though doesn't have to be a mesmer.

[visions of regret] is very popular and very powerful.

First: yes, they can kill stuff allright, the most direct way is [Assassin's Promise]+[Cry of Pain]

Second: they can farm, but not as good as a perma or a 600 (although they can be a 600 tank or smite).

[Assassins Promise] [Auspicious Incantation] [Arcane Echo] [Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support] [Mind Wrack] [Cry of Pain] [Finish Him!] [Ether Signet]

Have fun

Finish Him is amazing although Pain Inverter is better suited in some areas.

In heavy enemey populated areas you can get about 10-12 ebon sins up at the same time per arcane echo recharge =)

Personally, I prefer to use Fragility as the feeder hex. It at least does some token damage when the "Finish Him!" happens.

Speccing in Illusion also gives the option to switch the Ether Signet with Conjure Nightmare as some extra Auspicious Incantation-fodder, although YMMV on whether that is actually better than Ether Signet.

@Squeak2: What experience have you had with mesmers so far?

I generally have my characters secondary mesmer because the profession is very flexible if you prepare before a quest or mission. Their interuption is much more deliberate than ranger (which can be good or bad). With nuking they're good because I can back off if needed after I cast instead of standing there to die and because when you have an easy quest...you just want to do damage to move on. Depending on your build, your role won't be mostly damage, but to make the game/mission go smoother.

Well, none at all in PvE. I used a Mesmer in PvP to get my rank up to the deer /rank, after that I switched to elementalist. I also fought many mesmers. Outside of what I mentioned I only used Mes Secondaries. I also dropped outta the game shortly after EotN so I am a little dated, I think.

Edit: About the people saying "what do you prefer doing?" I dont care. I know the mes ball park, and I am more than happy to play anywhere in it. I just need to catch up some popular builds and farms.

Everybody suggesting [Cry of Pain] shows how Mesmers aren't that good in PvE really. I don't think they're suited to it at all.

As someone who plays my Mesmer religiously, I have to cringe every time someone invites me to a group and tells me to run Cry of Pain.

I suspect refer's point was that it's basically resorting to using the Mesmer as a spammer of overpowered PvE skills rather than as a profession in its own right.

Which is kinda true. The Mesmer probably is the best at spamming overpowered PvE skills in general (due to being able to combine Arcane Echo and Assassin's Promise) but when push comes to shove, the AP/EVAS/CoP build is really just there to spam EVAS, CoP and Finish Him! rather than, well, being a Mesmer.

Other classes still get to actually use their profession skills as something other than energy management and to supply a condition - for instance, the equivalent AP-based Necromancer build has Mark of Pain as a major selling point, while an AP-based Elementalist build is probably throwing around a lot of high-recharge nukes.

Ap/EVAS/CoP works... quite effectively, in fact... but I am nostalgic for the disruption class that actually disrupts. Watching enemy hurt their friends through the likes of Wandering Eye and Mistrust is just that much more satisfying...

Now, however, it's all about the quick kill by any means necessary.

I guess that is sorta correct. I was talking about how Mesmers are pretty 1 dimensional in PvE. What else was really suggested so far besides PvE only skills and skills that help you use CoP more? Is nothing else even worth saying?

I guess my problem in general is stereotyping of professions. I know they're supposed to have themes, but if you are a PvE Ele you must run Fire Magic, if you are a Necro you must be a MM, if you are a Mesmer you must spam CoP, etc.

You're right about the kill quickly stuff too. Stuff dies too fast unless it's a hard area but (I recently did the last mission in Prophecies again with a group for Panic [even if it sucks] and that was good since there was a little more disruption involved).
